Née au Danemark, en 1957, Andrea Frandsen est diplômée avec « distinction » de l’école de lutherie de Newark-on-Trent, Grande-Bretagne, en 1985.
De 1985 à 1988, elle est en contact régulier avec l’atelier de restauration « Geigenbau Machold » à Brême, Allemagne, où elle a l’occasion d’étudier les instruments italiens de la période classique. Depuis son installation en 1988 à Angers, elle se consacre à la facture des instruments du quatuor à cordes et aux réglages de sonorités.
Ses instruments sont joués par des solistes de l’Opéra de Paris, La Chapelle Royale du Danemark, l’Orchestre Symphonique du BBC, l’Orchestre Symphonique de la Radio Finlandaise, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Castile et Leon en Espagne et l’Orchestre Symphonique de la Radio Danoise, ainsi que par de nombreux musiciens d’orchestre et musique de chambre à travers l’Europe et ailleurs.
Parmi plusieurs prix de concours internationaux figurent deux médailles d’or pour un violon à Oakland, CA en 1994 et pour un alto à Paris en 1991.
En 2004, elle est finaliste du « Strad Cello Making Competition » à Manchester, Angleterre et en 2008 elle reçoit le grade de « Chevalier de l’Ordre National de Mérite » du ministère des affaires étrangères et européennes.
Nourri d’une tradition vivante, qui prend ses racines dans la lutherie italienne du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle, son travail continue à s’enrichir grâce aux échanges avec le monde international de la lutherie, ainsi qu’à travers la collaboration étroite avec les musiciens.
Membre de l’EILA » Entente Internationale des Luthiers et Archetiers », et de l’ALADFI » Association des Luthiers et Archetiers pour le Développement de la Facture Instrumentale ».
Born in Møn, Denmark in 1957, Andrea Frandsen studied violin making in Newark-on-Trent, England, where she graduated with distinction in 1985.
From 1985 till 1988, she had the opportunity to closely observe many important instruments of classical period Italian makers at the « Geigenbau Machold » workshop in Bremen.
Since 1988, when she established herself in Angers, France, she has specialised in the making of fine violins, violas and cellos.
Her instruments are played and appreciated by soloists, orchestra musicians and chamber players throughout the world. You will hear them in many orchestras, including the Parish Opera, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Danish Opera, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Castile and Leon Symphony Orchestra in Spain.
Among the international awards she has won are two gold medals, one for a violin in Oakland, CA, 1994 and one for a viola in Paris, 1991. In 2004, she was a finalist in the Strad Cello Making Competition in Manchester, England and in 2008, she was appointed to the rank of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite by the French minister of Foreign and European Affairs.
Inspired by the tradition of 16th, 17th and 18th century Italian violin making, her work continuously evolves thanks to a regular exchange with colleagues and a close and enriching relationship with musicians.
Member of EILA (Entente Internationale des Luthiers et Archetiers) and ALADFI (Association des Luthiers et Archetiers pour le Développement de la Facture Instrumentale).
