Né en 1968 à Weimar en ex RDA, Marcus Klimke part en 1984 pour l’Allemagne de l’ouest, à Crailsheim. Après un apprentissage en ébénisterie il suit la formation de l’Ecole de Lutherie de Mittenwald et obtient son diplôme en 1992. A l’issue de son service civile à Munich, il approfondit ses connaissances en matière de restauration d’instruments entre 1993 et 1995 chez Michael Becker, luthier à Chicago. De 1995 à 2001, il est l’assistant de Patrick Robin et d’Andrea Frandsen dans leur atelier d’Angers. En octobre 2002 le luthier Marcus Klimke s’installe à Angers. Il fabrique les instruments du quatuor à cordes, inspirés des instruments italiens de la période «classique», notamment de la famille Amati et d’Antonio Stradivari. Ses violons, altos et violoncelles sont joués par des musiciens professionnels, solistes ou d’orchestres, au Danemark, aux Etats-Unis, en Suède, Allemagne, Suisse, Espagne, Italie, Japon, Angleterre, Belgique et en France.
Il participe régulièrement à des rencontres en France et en Allemagne avec quelques très bon luthiers du monde entier pour échanger sur leur savoir et faire progresser leur travail. En parallèle, il présente depuis de nombreuses années son travail dans des concours internationaux de Lutherie. Ses instruments ont remporté de nombreuses médailles : violon argent : Cremone «Triennale» 2006, Violin Society of America 2008 et 2010, Wieniawski - Pologne 2011, «Concours Etienne Vatelot» Paris 2011 violon bronze : Mittenwald - Allemagne 2010 alto or : Cremone «Triennale» 2000, Violin Society of America 2000, «Concours Etienne Vatelot» Paris 2004 et 2011, premier concours européen «Eufonia» 2009 alto argent : Violin Society of America 2008, Mittenwald - Allemagne 2010 alto bronze : Mittenwald - Allemagne 2001 violoncelle argent : Mittenwald - Allemagne 2005.
Born 1968 in Weimar, Marcus Klimke left with his family in 1984 for West-Germany, Crailsheim. He did an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker before he entered the violin making school in Mittenwald, where he received his diploma in 1992. After his civilian service in Munich he moved to Chicago, where he was mostly doing repairs and restorations in the workshop of Michael Becker for 18 months.
Between 1995 and 2001 he was assistent for Andrea Frandsen and Patrick Robin in their workshop near Angers. During this time he started to make instruments for himself and since october 2002 he has been working fulltime in his own workshop in Angers. He is making violins, violas and cellos inspired by the Italien instruments from the great «classical» period, but especially from the Amati family and Antonio Stradivari. His instruments are played by professionel musicians and soloists in the USA, Japan, Italy Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium and France. He regularly participates at workshops in France and Germany, where some of the best violin makers from around the world meet and exchange about their knowledge as to improve their
work. Also for many years he has regularly presentend instruments in international violin making competitions. His instruments have
won numerous medals : violin silver : Cremona «Triennale» 2006, Violin Society of America 2008 and 2010, Wieniawski - Poland 2011, «Concours Etienne Vatelot» Paris 2011 violin bronze : Mittenwald - Germany 2010 viola gold : Cremona «Triennale» 2000, Violin Society of America 2000, «Concours Etienne Vatelot» Paris 2004 and 2011, first european competition «Eufonia» 2009 viola silver : Violin Society of America 2008, Mittenwald 2010 viola bronze : Mittenwald - Germany 2001 cello silver : Mitenwald - Germany 2005.
